About

Hi!  I’m Karin and welcome to the farm. Here we have a saying, “There’s always room for one more”.  Whether I’m entertaining, adding plants to the garden, pots to the deck or farm friends in the pasture, I believe there’s always room for one more.

My husband and I are actually in the empty nest phase of life.  One of our 3 adult children is notorious for shopping my pantry of canned goods, farm raised beef and home made spice blends.  It makes my heart so happy when one of the kids calls and asks for the recipe for their favorite dish.

My love for the homestead life resides in that very special place where growing my own food and finding tasty ways to prepare or preserve it intersect.  I have always enjoyed welcoming people into our home and feeding them a home grown meal.  The food has so much more of a story when you’ve taken it from seed to fork. Working as a procurement executive in the corporate world of food manufacturing for 20+ years has led me to appreciate a good label read and quality ingredients. Cooking from scratch is the best way to feed the ones I love!

Fun Facts about me:

Growing up, I was often found entertaining family by impersonating the great Julia Child in our living room.  I’d set up a makeshift counter and stand behind it while throwing my voice and trying to repeat things I had seen her do on The French Chef TV show.  She was my kind of lady and part of the reason I love cooking today.  She was always trying new things and learning.  While I have never made Boeuf Bourguignon, watching her on The French Chef was sure inspiring…some day.

“This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook—try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all have fun.” ― Julia Child

I am 5’10” tall.  Besides the struggle to find pants that don’t look like capris, it’s not a bad gig.   It helps that my family is tall too.  Did you know that my girl Julia was tall too?  She was 6’2” of awesomeness!

We are the 2nd generation on the farm.  When my husband and I were dating, I recall us sitting on the deck one summer evening enjoying a glass of merlot and asking him, “So, how long have you lived here?” to which he smiled and said, “My whole life.”  And here we are – still on the farm.  The roots grow deep here.

My favorite drink is probably a tie between a great cup of coffee in the morning or a nice merlot in the evening.  I prefer well water over city water every time.

Thanks so much for taking time to visit the farm!
