Do you ever just want to bust out the old bread machine and have an easy day of letting that appliance do the work for you?
Me too friend…me too. Here’s your solution to an easy and hearty loaf of bread!
This loaf is made with a combination of AP flour, whole wheat flour, teff flour and loaded with a whole cup of delicious and nutritious seeds. I like to use sesame seeds, poppy seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds and some millet. You can use any combination of seeds that you have on hand as long as it totals 1 cup. If you want a stronger flavor, you could try cumin seed, fennel seed, caraway seed or even fenugreek if you have that. For added color, sub out the white sesame seeds for black ones. The sweetness from the molasses and honey compliments the nuttiness quite well.
How to make this loaf in a bread machine:
Add Ingredients: Toss the ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the following order: Water, Oil, Sugars, Flours, All the seeds, Salt, and lastly, Yeast.
Set Up and Turn On: Add the bread pan to the bread machine, close the lid, and plug in the machine. Choose the whole wheat bread setting, medium size, and start the machine with your chosen program.
Cool: After the machine ends the baking cycle and beeps, unplug it, open the lid, and remove the pan from the machine with kitchen mitts or kitchen towels. Allow the bread to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then shake it out of the pan and allow it to cool completely. Carefully remove the paddle from the bottom of the loaf if it got stuck there.
Literally could not be easier. This is a perfect thing to throw together over lunch and have ready and cooled for supper.
Enjoy!

This seedy whole grain bread recipe is a wonderfully easy bread machine option for a quick and hearty loaf. Just dump everything into the pan and hit start!
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbls olive oil
- 1 Tbls molasses
- 3 Tbls honey
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup teff flour
- 1 1/2 Tbls vital wheat gluten
- 3 Tbls sesame seeds
- 3 Tbls poppy seeds
- 3 Tbls flax seeds
- 3 Tbls chia seeds
- 2 Tbls millet
- 2 Tbls sunflower seeds, unsalted
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
Directions:
- 1
Add all ingredients into the bread machine pan in the order they are listed in the recipe. No need to mix them.
- 2
Set your machine for the “whole wheat” cycle and choose a “light” crust setting. Hit start and let the magic happen.
Keep an eye on the mixing initially to make sure that your seeds incorporate into the loaf and don’t ride up the edge of the pan. Use a rubber spatula to poke them down into the loaf if needed.
After 20 minutes, have a look and if the dough looks dry add about 1Tbls water, if too wet add about 1Tbls of flour.

A whole wheat loaf on my machine takes about 3-1/2 hours – when you machine beeps “done” at the end of the cycle, remove the bread from the pan and place on a wire cooling rack to cool.
Resist the temptation to cut into your loaf until it has completely cooled – I know…this is the hardest part! Be strong.
